When it comes to food, one of the best choices in the world is no doubt Italian cuisine. The first thing that pops up in my mind with “Italian food” is pasta, pizza, creamy and rich dishes. This is exactly true but Italian food also has the variety of chicken and seafood cooked in olive oil. The best thing I like about Italian food choice is you can toss the menu as per your needs but the taste will remain heavenly. It would not be wrong saying that Italian food is a combination of healthy as well as disastrous diet. Here is my choice for Italian food that is also balanced in terms of nutritions. Pasta
Most of the Italian restaurants do offer pasta as their primi (small first dish). It is a great choice to have paste as your preliminary course to your main dish. But pasta can also be taken as the main course. There is nothing unhealthy about taking pasta. All you need to do is to select it wisely. You must not go for creamy and cheesy sauces and heavy sausages. Instead, try to order pasta with red sauces like marinara and red clam. You also have an option of choosing vegetable sauces. All such sauces are quite healthier and light as compared to the creamy sauces. You must always ask in detail about the sauces before you order.
One of the healthiest and best ways to start your dinner is to have caesar salad. The authentic Italian restaurants will make use of anchovies as the dressing for the salad which is the best part of it. It is full of omega-3 fats which are very healthy for our body. The salad also includes lemon juice, olive oil, croutons, eggs, and Romain lettuce. The dressing of the salad includes parmesan cheese which is optional and you can also ask for keeping the dressing on the side or lowering the amount of calories.
I love ordering grilled seafood from the Italian menu. Again, you have lots of options in seafood but my choice is grilled fish. It is healthy, delicious and full of flavors. You can also choose roasted fish or chicken but in my opinion roasted fish still have little more oil and fat. You can also ask for roasted or steamed vegetables along with the fish or any meaty item. It will give you a very healthy combination.
You again have a lot of options for dessert, if you really have a craving for it. But it is somewhat necessary to complete your meal. It is not mandatory to order some heavy or creamy dessert. Instead, you can go for nonfatty cappuccino or another food option will be small biscotti. These desserts are better than ordering cakes that can really become very heavy after having Italian food.
For me, it is not difficult finding out healthy choices in the Italian food. The only thing is to choose carefully.
